2020.10.28 04:16 nola00 [Crown and Caliber] Unbiased Review

I'm not a reviewer by any means, and you can take this all with a grain of salt - but here is my experience with Crown and Caliber - selling AND buying.
10/17 - I decide to sell my Omega Seamaster to the highest bidder. Paid $1900 for it, great condition, no papers and no box. I send C&C some pictures and they offer me $1600. I'm bummed by this, but I move forward and mail them the watch for a final offer.
10/19 - They get my watch and begin appraisal.
10/20 - They drop the final offer to $1450. I'm even more bummed, but I fell in love with a Rolex Explorer II 16570 they have on the site for $6500 from around 1991. I decide to green light the sale and take the hit. They send me an offer letter and I ask they give me store credit. I use the $1450 and purchase the Explorer II.
10/21 - They ship the watch.
10/24 - I receive the watch. I tear open the box and find the prettiest piece of jewelry I have seen, almost ever. SO impressed! I bring it to my jeweler, who shares my sentiment and tells me this is a clean, mint watch. I bring it to my appraiser.
10/25 - My appraiser calls and says the "no-return" sticker on the watch doesn't match the serial number on the case. I'm furious. I go to his office and he says the serial is from a 2007 watch but the actual watch is a 1991. I explain to him I knew I was purchasing a 1991 and to go ahead with his appraisal.
10/26 - My appraiser gets me a report with an appraisal of $9000. Almost no flaws.

Final review for C&C:
Customer Service : A+ Shipping : A+ Communication : A+ Selling : B- Purchasing : A++ (Mainly because I got so much return on this investment already, AND they have sales throughout the year. For example, a Halloween sale right now has codes for $300 OFF WATCHES. Now I understand why they knocked so much off my Omega - because they lowball their own watches. This Rolex is amazing!

2020.10.27 17:42 thedago Am I out of luck -- Searching for Spectre

So, I am a few years late to the Omega game. Naturally once I do fall into this circle I become solely focused on a singular piece to acquire, the Seamaster 300 Spectre edition. I know, just a few years behind the ball on this.
Do I trust the used market? Sites or sellers you would recommend?

There are no discernible scratches anywhere, including on the buckle (see the picture with that). The warranty card is from June 1, 2020, so this is a 4 month old watch at this point. 2020.10.25 17:16 warm-hesalite [SBGH201] From Seiko to Rolex and back

Starting in my childhood until the end of college, I always had a watch. Watches were always more of a necessary utility than an embellishment. My decision to wear a watch (again) began when I saw a display in Haarlem and thought "that's really cool." I'd been getting tired of smartphones for a while. You can't just check the time, there's always another distraction. In a way, they're a kind of leash. I wasn't well informed, so I figured I'd pick something up when I got back to the States. After some research into movements, country of origin, manufacture, and bang for the buck, I picked up an SPB071 Seiko diver with the features I couldn't afford in my younger years. This watch was perfect. It wasn't too thick, had polish in the right places, a domed sapphire crystal with AR coating inside, and a metallic blue gradient dial. It looks better than an Omega Seamaster (sans the stupid helium escape valve) and keeps near-perfect time. Even after picking up several other watches, this one remains my favorite. At worst, it gains +3 to 5s per day, far surpassing the 6R15's expectations.
Over time, I purchased other Seikos. I started out deliberately and purchased each one new. I figured that if I'm going to buy something for regular use, I might as well leave my own scratches and dings. You wouldn't be inclined to buy a used wallet or pair of pants, right? I'd become more interested in Seikos, mostly due to the Japanese pragmatism in their designs and their unparalleled level of vertical integration. Each watch has its own quirks. The 8L35 driven Marinemaster 300 SLA021 is formidable and keeps perfect time, but it came with a crown that has rough threads. It almost feels like you could cross-thread it if you aren't careful (you'd have to wrench down it). A SBGH201 Grand Seiko hi-beat powered by the 9S85 was purchased on a trip to Tokyo -- this watch may as well be a chronometer, it's so accurate and consistent. It's an elegant watch, but rather thick for a dress watch. On a sidenote, if you are in Japan, go to the Grand Seiko boutique in Ginza. It's probably the best AD experience you will ever have. My last Seiko purchase was an SLA025, the Seiko hi-beat diver. I already had a MM300 but wanted the undecorated Grand Seiko movement, and it's a big clunking piece of metal. This will probably be my last Seiko for awhile, as nothing else in their current lineup stands out.
Seiko makes an amazing watch. They're accurate, amazingly finished, and very reliable. However, their high end timepieces are enormous. I don't think anybody can realistically wear a 47mm watch that's > 16mm thick, and most of the people I saw in Japan don't have 8" wrists! Four Seikos later, I've got 4 different movements and 3 different beat rates. No problems, no issues. Downside is servicing. When I have to service these watches, I'll probably send them back to Japan. I'm not willing to deal with the nonsense that their Mahwah, NJ service center is notorious for.
After some time and research, I decided to buy a smooth bezel Rolex Datejust 41. The 904L stainless, 3235 movement with higher shock tolerance / lower magnetism, amazing fit and finish, and its low profile, understated case really appealed to me. For what it's worth, a lot of this is probably marketing, and the DateJust is a dead ringer for my Grand Seiko. However, the 5 year Rolex warranty, guaranteed +/- 2s chronometer certification, and excellent domestic support network stood out. While some people like aesthetics, I'm more interested in what's under the hood. I guess that's how I wound up with the SLA025, which looks great on my wrist but won't fit under most of my shirt cuffs... I did my homework and found an outstanding local Rolex AD, got to know the store manager and his employees, and submitted my name to the "waiting list." I didn't wait long... 1 week later, I picked up my first Rolex. It's a well made watch, although I'm not sure that all the hype surrounding Rolex is to be believed. This watch loses 8s (8!) per day, and it's apparently a known issue with the 3235 movement and some models. The flat sapphire crystal looks amazing under direct light but has no AR coating so it glares like a mirror. With that said, the most expensive and elegant (depends on who you ask) watch in my collection is also the least accurate. I sent the watch back to Rolex through my AD after a month, although they say I may not see it again until after the holidays.
I think it's funny that my first Rolex had to be sent in for warranty service, while my 4 Seikos have all been extremely reliable. If I compared my SBGH201 against the Datejust 41mm, I'd say that the Grand Seiko outperforms the Datejust and has more features, but isn't anywhere as recognizable.

I’ve been a lurker for quite sometime before I bought my second watch.
Got an omega seamaster 300 today and went over to u/countryboycansurvive YouTube channel. I had the dilemma of having to figure out what spring-bars are used by VSF, and little do I know, he’s got it on his channel.
His videos are really helpful, and fun to watch at the same time.
P.S please make a video for us omega guys on how to silence the seamaster 300 rotor!

2020.10.16 19:35 agforce Rubber strap for Omega Seamaster 300

Hi everyone,
I was hoping someone could point me in the right direction. I own the Omega SMP reference 212.30.41.20.01.003 on the bracelet but I really want a rubber strap.
I understand there is no OEM rubber strap for this watch specifically and the strap from the new Seamaster will not fit the older model.
Does anyone have a recommendation for a rubber strap that would fit this model? Maybe with photos I can peek at?
Thanks all.
