I was challenged into writing a primer on one of Finland's primary songwriters of all time by u/Zhanteimi at the LetsTalkMusic discord. So here's an album-by-album runthrough of his career! Context No artist's career begins with the first album, so naturally nor did Alanko's. Long story short, he was born in a highly artistic family (mother a poet, all siblings musicians), picked cello as his instrument of choice, found rock (especially the Hurriganes debut) and picked a guitar, wrote his first song 'Suck and Fuck All Night Long' (no recordings of this exist, but apparently one of his bands named itself after the song), and formed a number of bands with varying levels of success. His most succesful pre-Hassisen Kone band was a prog band called Sight, which got on the second place in the prog section of Finnish Rock Championship competition (in 1977 or 1978). After he finished high school in the spring of 1979, he moved to Stockholm for the summer. This turned out to be the decision that became the catalyst for huge parts of his career, including... Hassisen Kone - Täältä tullaan Venäjä While in Stockholm, Alanko caught wind of a new wave of rock beginning in Finland. A breath of fresh air in the previously stale rock scene. He returned to Joensuu and put together a band from his bandmates from Sight (Reijo Heiskanen and Harri Kinnunen), and Harri's then 17-year-old brother Jussi. They eventually named the band Hassisen Kone, after a sewing machine store in town (the deeply religious shopkeeper was not amused). The band recorded an album-length demo in 1979 and were signed on a label relatively quickly. They were also qualified to enter the 1980 Finnish Rock Championship competition (even though the judges nearly disqualified them, for they thought they might be professional musicians performing under fake names), which they won, gaining reputation preceding the recording of their debut album. In August of 1980, the band released Täältä tullaan Venäjä. Propelled by arguably the biggest hit single in Alanko's career, Rappiolla [which was hilariously covered by Metallica recently (which was spontaneously responded to by Ismo Alanko himself)], the album became a smash hit. The album provides variety from straight-up new wave punk to talkingheadsian grooves, schlager punk, simplified swing jazz, ska-infused rock, to whatever you'd categorise 'Viimeinen rock ennen aivokuolemaa' as. It's an ambitious yet consistent whole but, in my opinion, the weakest of the three Hassisen Kone albums. The youthful anarchic feel it has can be refreshing every now and then, but this burst of energy from an obviously young (only two of the bandmembers even in their 20s, band only half a year old) band is redirected better on the follow-up. Hassisen Kone - Rumat sävelet Following the release of their debut, the band found themselves in a position that many acts today would both fear and envy: they played hundreds of gigs in the second half of 1980 and the first half of 1981. The gruesome touring around the country took a toll on the young band, but that's only barely comparable to the toll that the audience took on them. For example, as time went by, the band grew tired of the audience drunkenly demanding 'Rappiolla', so they stopped playing the song altogether. This time of maturing and growing more and more cynical reflected on their sophomore effort. Rumat sävelet should not necessarily be described as bleak per se, but it is certainly darker, tighter, and more mature than the band's debut. The band tackles sounds ranging from quasi-prog expression to post-punk, punk, psychobilly, and they take the talkingheadsian qualities into a sharper direction. The lyrics touch upon issues like love, exploitation, and sex (it's curious to think that probably the most explicit Finnish song about sex before this album was about "curly armpit hair", while Alanko dares to sing about penetration itself). I have to admit that I have a bit of a bias when it comes to this one though, as it's undoubtedly my favourite album of all time. Hassisen Kone - Harsoinen teräs (and High Tension Wire) In 1981, the band participated on a riverboat tour with a couple of other punk acts. During this tour, the bassist broke (drugs), Alanko met "Safka" Pekkonen, and the band was generally put under huge stress as the diet consisting mainly of alcohol began burning them down and their every move was documented by either film makers Mika and Aki Kaurismäki or the columnist documenting the tour for a zine. Despite all this, some of the better live recordings of the band come from this tour, and both the live album and the Kaurismäki documentary are worth digging up for the music. After the tour, the band expanded into a septet with the addition of a keyboardist (Pekkonen), a saxophonist (Antti Seppo), and a percussionist (Hannu Porkka). The final form of the band was shaped during the rehearsals by the departure of guitarist Heiskanen, who was replaced by the guitar wizard Jukka Orma. Released in March of 1982, Harsoinen teräs is the band's most artistically ambitious work. It's an album combining the band's prog leanings seamlessly with the band's new wave leanings, a polished whole that takes cues from I don't even know where. Reggae at least on a couple of tracks, prog and new wave on most, but the general sound is unlike anything I've ever encountered. The album was re-recorded in English as High Tension Wire later on in the year, after a tour had slightly tightened the band's sound. The decision to do so apparently came after the decision to disband the band, which makes it a very baffling addition to Hassisen Kone's discography. You'd think that they'd release an album in English as an attempt to break into international markets, right? Sielun Veljet - Sielun Veljet After Hassisen Kone was disbanded (in August 1982), Alanko had a schlager rock project that eventually turned into Sielun Veljet by December. The band was comprised of Alanko, Orma, a drummer veteran Alf Forsman, Alanko's Stockholm contact Jouko Hohko on bass, Vinski Viholainen doing lighting, and a future cult legend Jouni Mömmö doing "weird noises". Sielun Veljet were signed in early 1983, but they refused to record a studio album because Viholainen's lighting work wouldn't show in a studio recording. Instead, as a compromise, they agreed on recording a live album where "the lighting would affect the ambiance". They set out to do this on a tour they began on March, planning on recording the first show and the last one. However, fate interfered and Orma accidentally cut tendons from his fingers during the tour while cutting bread, which made the recordings from the last show basically unusable due to his difficulties in adjusting to the situation (a very punk move to finish the tour even with torn tendons, by the way). The live album is punk/post-punk goodness. It's noisy, no-wavey rock that really shows how the band took all the drugs in the process of writing these harsh, repetitive songs. It also shows that Alanko wished to abandon messing around with intricate compositions in favour of a more stripped and primal expression. Sielun Veljet - Lapset In summer of 1983, the band brightened up a bit to record this odd EP in a style following directly from the debut. It's angular and distorted, yet the melodies are more melodic and jamming less bleak. It's also the home of the only a capella punk song I've ever heard. Sielun Veljet - Hei soturit In 1984, Sielun Veljet took their first coherent step toward a pop/rock idiom with their first studio album. Hei soturit is the awkward outlier between the band's grimy punk era and commercial rock era. It feels like a punk band working with a producer who doesn't understand punk, but even the clumsy production doesn't entirely hide the fact that some of these songs are absolutely iconic. From punk to garage rock, general oddness, and flirting even with metal, this selection of songs does provide good variety for anyone digging deeper in Alanko's body of work. Sielun Veljet - L'amourha The Sielun Veljet breakthrough album! The beginning of their rock era of albums, an only mildly angular affair with anthemic choruses and a muscular production. It was recorded after the band had toured all over Europe, honing their sound and Alanko finding a lot to say about international affairs and the human condition. There are a plenty of anecdotes from the time of release of this album. The song 'On mulla unelma' was written by Alanko in Spain, when he was recovering from a disease (can't remember which one. Dysentery?) and bitter about nationalism, and it caused quite a scandal when the band unexpectedly debuted it on live television. They performed an impromptu Red Riding Hood play on their album release party instead of playing music. One of the members went missing in Russia for days after the band found a corpse. All of their instruments were stolen in Spain. There'd a lot to unpack from 1984-5 alone. Sielun Veljet - Kuka teki huorin The follow-up to L'amourha takes the band to a funkier place. It's a minor downgrade from the previous effort, a slightly directionless and overpolished effort that has diverse variety from RHCP-like funk rock to tango-infused rock, tribal chants, and what's essentially watered down imitation of their earlier work. It's an easy album to criticise, yet I don't find ever to be outright bad. A lot of it is extremely forgettable though L'amourder - Ritual and Shit-Hot Sielun Veljet recorded a bunch of their songs in English as L'amourder. Most of them follow the originals very closely, but there are a few surprises. The biggest change is on the translation of 'Tuulelta vastauksen saan', which has been turned into a cover of Bob Dylan's 'Blowin' in the Wind'. Sielun Veljet - Suomi - Finland Suomi - Finland begins the last era of the band, as this album brings more acoustic instruments to the mix and begins to flirt with psychedelia in a way that will culminate on the follow-up. It feels like a breaking point for the band, as it sprawls on multiple directions at once, the musicians seemingly having lost focus. It feels like a band slowly drifring apart, yet it remains consistently captivating as the different influences come together in this chaotic work. "Various Artists" - Onnenpyörä Sielun Veljet performed under a number of false identities on their Onnenpyörä-tour, four of which make an appearance on this recording. All of these are cover bands of sorts, and each one of them had a different repertoire of songs they played on these wildly differing sets. The most noteworthy of these personae are the pavillion dance band Kullervo Kivi ja Gehenna-yhtye and the rock band Leputation of the Slaves, the two having the most songs on the record. Sielun Veljet - Softwood Music Under Slow Pillars Who would have thought that the noisy punk band in 1983 would eventually release what could be called a psychedelic flamenco album in 1989? Many factors come together here, as the band continues on their effort to sell their music internationally by making the biggest left turn in memory. Orma's fascination with flamenco combines here with influences Alanko picked up in India and what could be called a somewhat logical progression from the budding psychedelia of Suomi - Finland. It's a weird album, that's for sure. A bit inconsistent, but easily among the strangest albums I've ever heard. Ismo Alanko - Kun Suomi putos puusta In 1990, Alanko found himself in a situation where Sielun Veljet had almost run its course and he could finally start building a solo career. He recorded this solo debut as a quasi-concept album about rural flight, combining the various interest he wasn't able to pursue with the band into a unique singesongwriter album of sorts. It's a classic album and, in some ways, an ideal entry point into Alanko's work as it feels like it's his personal expression in its purest form. The music on the album sounds mainly like pop rock of sorts, but it also takes cues from melancholic singesongwriter stuff, joyous showtunes, post-punk akin to Nick Cave's work, and some field recording experiments. It finds a good balance between artistic ambition and catchiness, and it's home to some of the most iconic tracks in Ismo Alanko songbook. Sielun Veljet - Musta laatikko Do you know Tom Waits' Orphans? This one is kind of like that. Three discs filled with random stuff recorded over years. The first disc, "Muistinmenetys", is one third a new studio album (very weird new direction to take, something that feels like a cross between chill hippie jamming and 80s dance pop), one third music from some production, and one third short excerpts from live performances. The second disc, "Taudinkuva", is mainly live performances of late 80s Sielun Veljet songs, Tuomari Nurmio covers, and some other oddities. And finally, the third disc, "Isältä pojalle", is a full pavillion dance set, the band LARPing as a suave and jazzy house band playing waltz, tango, schlager, and anything that's really expected of them. This album is definitely a skippable one, but there are a few gems that an Ismo Alanko fan might get a lot out of. The flamenco pieces are cool, the Tuomari Nurmio covers are nice (more about those later), and that pavillion dance set is unexpectedly fun, especially if you're not already familiar with the tradition. Ismo Alanko - Jäätyneitä lauluja Alanko goes electronic! This album was originally lauded as cutting edge and a sign of significant artistic growth, but it has definitely fallen in popularity over the years. It sounds extremely like a product of its time, so if you like non-industrial synthpop-y rock from 90s, this is exactly your thing. Overall, it's still very surprising how many Alanko live staples come from this album though, and how some of his live bands have improved on all of them. Ismo Alanko - Taiteilijaelämää If someone doesn't think that Kun Suomi putos puusta is Alanko's magnum opus, they usually pick this one. Taiteilijaelämää feels like a combination of the first two solo albums (acoustic, electric, and electronic joining hands in harmony), but brought into the mid-90s rock idiom. The result is an interesting album that lacks real highs but remains consistently accessible, and the one Ismo Alanko work I've heard to have resonated with Beck fans for some reason. Ismo Alanko - I-r-t-i I made the mistake of learning that this album was written in only two weeks (because Alanko wanted to test himself), and now that's all I can think of while listening to it. This does feel halfbaked. The accessible rock sound it has is underproduced and covers up lazy songwriting more than once. That said, Alanko has later on proven that some of these songs can be absolutely amazing live, and the demo-like quality many of these tracks have can be seen as a feature instead of a bug. Pushing its flaws aside, I feel that it is underappreciated as an album, and feel like its high points deserve more attention. Ismo Alanko Säätiö - Pulu Säätiö was an interesting group. I'm honestly still a bit unclear whether they should be considered Alanko's backing band, a band that just happened to capitalise on his name, or a fullblown collective of musicians. Alanko's statements concerning the group together with the changing lineups on Säätiö albums both point to all three options. What I do know is that the band has two distinct eras, the first one kickstarted by Pulu. I genuinely believe that the first iterarion of Säätiö is the most important band Alanko worked with. The amount of pure talent in that band is staggering with Jussi Kinnunen (Hassisen Kone) on bass, Teho Majamäki (HC Andersen, Tapani Rinne, Ismo Alanko Teholla) on percussion, Kimmo Pohjonen (you will want to check his solo stuff) on accordion, and Marko Timonen (Värttinä, Tuomari Nurmio) on drums giving Alanko's songwriting a fascinating folk rock spin, reeking of schlager and eastern mysticism. Pulu is an album that seeps nostalgia, is radical enough to upset traditional folk nerds, is accessible enough to have produced multiple Alanko live staples, and is significant enough a twist on Alanko's tropes to sound fresh even in his eclectic body of work. Yet, I feel like it's so self-referential that I feel like recommending it as anyone's first Ismo Alanko album could be a mistake. Ismo Alanko Säätiö - Luonnossa Säätiö playing acoustic renditions from the entire Ismo Alanko songbook, from Täältä tullaan Venäjä to Pulu. An exciting set, and definitely one of the best live albums I've ever heard. The band reworks this wide variety of songs into captivating folk rock, transforming the music into forms that defy expectations. There are some duds though, but not all fan favourites can sound great with just one band. Ismo Alanko Säätiö - Sisäinen solarium This is possibly the weirdest Ismo Alanko album to this date. It continues with nearly the same lineup as on Pulu, but takes the music in a radically new direction, exploring what modernised folk could be rather than wallowing on nostalgia. This means updating the largely acoustic instrumentation with both electric and electronic instruments, and creating an unpredictable tapestry of music with influences that are surprisingly difficult to pinpoint. Some say this kind of experimentation cheapens traditional folk (which is something I can agree with regarding some songs on this album), but I'm not sure if such a clearcut statement can be made of the full album. It's certainly aiming for a sound of its own. Ismo Alanko Säätiö - Hallanvaara This is where Säätiö's status as a band becomes complicated. There's absolutely no reason to call this anything but an Ismo Alanko solo album, so marketing it as an Ismo Alanko Säätiö album is baffling to say the least. I mean, the only constants on this album are Alanko himself, the producemulti-instrumentalist Riku Mattila, and various symphonic elements (I don't want to downplay the work the symphonic orchestra and the string section do on this album, but they have been used quite haphazardly). There are three members from the previous Säätiö albums involved in this project: Marko Timonen on nine tracks, Samuli Laiho on seven tracks, and Kimmo Pohjonen on one track. In addition to this, there's the bassist of the next iteration of Säätiö, Jarno Karjalainen, on six tracks. Thus, there are Säätiö band members playing on the majority of these tracks, but never as a full band. That all being said, I believe this to be the best Säätiö album. The melancholic pieces are beautifully fragile, the pop tracks are catchy, the massive songs are massive, and the atmospheric pieces are chillingly well-arranged. And even the weaker songs here are excellent live, making this album probably the richest one to mine for a live set of any kind. Ismo Alanko Säätiö - Elävää musiikkia Honestly, this feels like a bit of a throwaway live album. On one hand, these rock renditions of a great setlist of songs are unique but, on the other hand, none of these performances improve on the studio recordings. 'Kansallispäivä' and 'Julkinen eläin' come really close though, both being sharper and meaner than the 80s versions. Ismo Alanko Säätiö - Minä ja pojat The first album with the second iteration of the band. Fuzzy rock in similar vein to Smashing Pumpkins and their kin, but played through the lense of Alanko's style of songwriting. It's never as hard-hitting or catchy as an album by a great rock band would be -- all of the songs soften up during the chorus -- but the youthful and slightly naivistic touch is welcome after a string of artistically ambitious albums. That said, I'm only attached to a single song on the whole album, which is definitely not a good sign. Ismo Alanko Säätiö - Ruuhkainen taivas The second (and last) studio album of the second iteration of Säätiö is a different beast than the first one, taking the rock approach to a slightly more complex direction. It's more mature and chromatic than the first album, yet I personally find it to sound slightly less inspired. However, at the same time, it does have more tracks that I would consider keepers and the general sound is harder to define. Thus, it's definitely a divisive album, conflicting. I'm not sure how to describe the sound of this album. It's unmistakeably early 2000s rock, sounding like an average Finnish rock band from the era, yet the songwriting and the production also remind me of the band Wire out of all things. It's a digestible alternative/indie rock sound, whenever it doesn't abruptly go in a new direction. Sielun Veljet - Otteita Tuomari Nurmion laulukirjasta Remember those random Tuomari Nurmio covers on Musta Laatikko? Turns out, Sielun Veljet recorded a full album of those in (I assume) late 80s. They didn't end up using those recordings for anything, so they were packed away and stored somewhere. Years went by and a good portion of those recordings were destroyed due to poor storing conditions, but someone was eventually inspired to put the surviving songs to good use. You'll be in for a treat, if you like Sielun Veljet and have never heard anything by Tuomari Nurmio. Most of these covers are originally from Nurmio's early 80s albums, his strange new wave turned into the angular rock Sielun Veljet perfected. Some of these songs only barely work, some sound like Sielun Veljet originals, but most are just serviceable covers. It's still a good album though. Ismo Alanko Teholla - Blanco spirituals After putting Säätiö on hold (perhaps indefinitely), Alanko joined forces with Teho Majamäki, the first iteration Säätiö percussionist. Together they stripped down a number of Ismo Alanko songbook staples to a form they could perform as a duo, essentially bringing the strengths of Alanko's live performances alone together with the strengths of him performing with a small ensemble. This endeavour proved succesful, so the two recorded two albums of original music as well. The music of Blanco spirituals is surprisingly full. The two musicians fill space well, with Alanko singing and playing chord instruments (mainly guitar and piano), while Majamäki stretches himself as thin as possible, working a drumset, vibes, an array of percussions, an oscillating delay pedal, and singing backing vocals. It's usually at least two of those at the same time, often three. Him working in a live environment is a sight to behold. This is honestly one of my favourite Ismo Alanko albums. The stripped down arrangements bring the most out of Alanko's songwriting. The selection of songs highlight very different sides of his style, from theatrical piano ballads to singalong acoustic guitar romps, silly pop songs, and trance-inducing rock. It's by no means a perfect album, but these simple songs all work in one way or another. Sielun Veljet - Kansan parissa (1-4) Archival live recordings of sets recorded around 1989-1991. The first one is a typical Sielun Veljet set, the second one filled with Tuomari Nurmio covers, the third one is material from Softwood Music Under Slow Pillars, and the fourth one is a mix of subtle experimentation, new tracks, and deep cuts. Quite a comprehensive collection of live music. However, only few tracks are really worth keeping, including the electrifying high-tempo performance of 'Lammassusi' and the prototypical version of Alanko's 'Don Quiote'. Ismo Alanko Teholla - Onnellisuus The simplicity of the previous album is gone, replaced by a polished and highly produced pop sound. The DIY duo sound gives way to a more layered style, where synths, samples, and doubled vocals are added to the band's sound. Acoustic instruments are largely replaced by electric guitars and synths, turning the folksy garage band sound to a sleak and radio-friendly beast. If the fact that I just phrased the same exact thing in three ways didn't clue you in yet, I'm not particularly fond of this change of direction. However, I've seen this ridiculously often called the best Ismo Alanko album since the 90s, so it does appeal to the masses. If you like 2010s pop and are looking for a decent gateway to Alanko's music, this could be the album to start with. It's accessible. Hassisen Kone - 20 vuotta myöhemmin Hassisen Kone had a reunion in 2000. They played a show that was both filmed and recorded. It's an interesting document of musicians playing music they wrote 20 years earlier. However, it ultimately sounds a bit tired compared to both the tight playing on their studio recordings and the energy levels on their 80s live recordings. Ismo Alanko - Maailmanlopun sushibaari Remember when I said that most pick between Kun Suomi putos puusta and Taiteilijaelämää as Alanko's magnum opus? Well, this is that one for me. I'm not saying that to imply that it would be his best album, but it's the album where he finally brings his disparate influences together in a coherent but eclectic way. If Kun Suomi putos puusta is where Alanko's artistic voice is at its purest, this is where it is at its maturest and most representative of the multi-faceted artist he has become during his career. More or less incidentally, this is also Alanko's midlife crisis album. It's not entirely thematic -- who even knows what 'Kuusilmä' is about? -- but it does touch upon themes like growing old, dying, passing the torch, losing one's touch, and liking the colour grey. It's not quite on the nose, but you don't exactly have to dissect the lyrics to find those undercurrents. So what does the album sound like? It's lighter than you'd imagine based on the central themes. There's rock, funk, subtle latin feel, a capella, pop, traditional folk, and even an ambitious rock opera about what sounds like a zombie apocalypse. It's fairly eclectic, making it a nice first solo album to release in nearly two decades. Ismo Alanko - 33 1/3: Kolmannesvuosisata taiteilijaelämää This is the Ismo Alanko live album I recommend people to start with. Are these performances as exciting as their studio versions? No. But I'd argue that they don't have to be. The main strength this recording has is its uniformity. The songs are played in a generic rock band style, but it doesn't change the fact that the setlist is good and diverse. There's no compilation that would dive this deep in such a digestible manner. Essentially, this is the middle-of-the-road pick that gives an excellent cursory look into a prolific artist's entire body of work (up until 2013). Ismo Alanko - Ismo Kullervo Alanko Considering how introspective and self-reflective the previous album is, it's surprising that Alanko decided to name this one after himself. It works though. The songs are produced sparser and airier than on any other Ismo Alanko album, making the music feel intimate and almost confessional. It feels like you're sitting in the same room with him, as he opens up to you. Amazingly produced album. Ismo Alanko - Pannaanko pakasteet pieneen pussiin? To be frank, I don't think this EP is an essential release. It's noteworthy for the modern hobo blues feel it has, and for having one of the very few covers Alanko has recorded so far, but none of these songs have an iconic feel to them. The best I can say about it is that none of the songs are bad, but neither are they memorable. Ismo Alanko - Yksin Vanhalla I wish more band-focused artists performed live alone every now and then. An arrangement stripped down to just vocals and an instrument (in Alanko's case, usually acoustic guitar, piano, or cello) turns every song into something entirely different. However, the lyrics grow in significance as instruments are dropped, so your mileage may vary with this one. I still enjoy it though. Pohjonen Alanko - Northern Lowland Alanko collaborates with Kimmo Pohjonen and Tuomas Norvio to bring us an electronic neon-shamanic album. Primal chants and vocalisations blending together with beats ranging from harsh to chill and breakbeat-y. It's a fascinating EP, even if highly gimmicky and lacking a sense of direction. Besides, this stuff will always be better live than on a studio recording. Ismo Alanko - Minä halusin olla niin kuin Beethoven And finally, the latest Ismo Alanko album, where he takes yet another left turn. This one was mainly recorded by Alanko alone in a studio, but eventually a drummer and a keyboardist were brought in to round up the sound. And what a sound it is! Youthful indie rock with a production that's stuck somewhere between the 00s and the 80s. If it were not for 58-year-old Alanko's vocals and eccentric riffing, I could very well believe this to be a debut album by ambitious 20-somethings. Don’t slide all the time, it looks weird to do on places where you can just run!
Squad leaders should be competent and actively lead their squad and work together with other squad leaders via the chat
Play the Objective and don't camp!!! Listen to your squad leaders and your team!
Don't spam bombs as a plane: if you see your K/D is like 30, it's too much ;).

An Hour Before The Conference Station 56586 Temporary Base Command Tent
At the heart of the Ground Zero of Station 56586, in the confines of the spacious yet bare Command Tent, I found myself in a predicament. I had been whisked even further away from the conference grounds to a place further away from the rest of my news crew setting up in the press gallery. Now, I was seated at a cheap plastic folding table - across from the oddly carefree M14 and her menacing adjutant Negev. The two handgun dolls, Welrod and Grizzly, had excused themselves to probably resume their patrol or something, but not before they patted me down for weapons. As soon as they left, they were replaced by yet another curious doll who joined us in the tent. This new doll was wearing a prim and proper black military jacket with a matching black tie, forage cap and gloves. More than that, this doll was wearing a heavenly smile as she pushed a small trolley into the tent with her. The newcomer then happily greeted her station-mates, “Good morning M14-senpai, Negev-senpai. I see we have a guest~!” Negev set her elbow down on the table and rested her cheek in her hand as she groaned, “More like a nuisance, MP40. This intruder left the permitted area and tried tailing one of our patrols. It’s either she’s really brave or really stupid.” “Ahahaha…” I laughed uncomfortably at Negev’s blunt remark, but I didn’t dare to speak back. M14, however, took the remark in stride and turned to MP40 cheerfully to clarify, “M200-chan here is a journalist and she wanted to have an interview with us, so we said yes~! Oh, and can we have the… uh… Menu #1, MP40-chan?” “Of course~!” MP40 nodded, fished out a G&K-issue meal-ready-to-eat package from her trolley and set it before M14, “Rosemary Beef Stew and Apple Pie. Good choice, senpai!” Next, the girl with the food trolley went over to Negev to take her order. The hot-blooded Negev then gave me a sidelong glance and growled, “I’ll take anything with mashed potatoes, MP40.” Argh crap…! Does she know that ‘potato’ is my nickname in the office? Do these paramilitary folks keep tabs on the media too!? Plus - why did she emphasize ‘mashed’!? Babushka - please help. While I was freezing up like a popsicle, MP40 pouted at Negev and calmly chided, “Negev-senpai, please don’t talk like that. You’re scaring our guest~!” Surprisingly, the kind MP40’s words silenced the furious beast that was Negev. Once Negev had calmed down, MP40 wore a satisfied smile and gave Negev a ration packet. Do these two have a history or something? Before I could find the courage to ask, MP40 pushed her tray over to my side of the table and kindly started, “What would you like for lunch today, Miss…?” My fear-frozen heart was quickly thawed by MP40’s warm demeanor, so I was finally able to speak freely and order, “M200. My name is M200 from GKTV-5, Brest Oblast… and I, uh… I’ll have whatever Miss M14 is having.” Miss MP40’s smile widened as she set down another MRE package before me. She then set down a thermos of hot water at the middle of the table, gave us all a polite bow and then prepared to take her leave. “It’s a pleasure to meet you, Miss M200. If there is anything else you would like, feel free to give me a call.” When MP40 turned around to leave the tent, however, I managed to catch a glimpse of the submachine gun strapped behind her back - as well as the black baton that she wore at her hip. Even though this doll was being nice, she was still prepared to fight a battle in a blink of an eye, huh? Maybe these guys were still keeping a close eye on me for some reason. Or maybe I’m just overthinking things. In any case, the three of us began opening up our rations and preparing our pre-packaged meals. M14 was the first one to take the hot water thermos as she proceeded to brew herself some instant coffee. Once she had filled up her cup, she turned to me and remarked, “We have to say, M200-chan, you’re a brave one. It takes a lot of guts to snoop around in a paramilitary base in broad daylight. Perhaps investigative journalism is still alive and well~!” “Ahehehe… I’m just doing my job, Miss M14.” M14 chuckled at my answer but her voice started to grow much more serious as she referred to herself in the royal ‘we’ without missing a beat, “You also don’t know just how lucky you are that we recognized you right away. We’ve seen your face on the TV and Super Shorty’s told me about you too. You’re that ‘Interven-chan’ girl from the Live At Five segment, right?” My cheeks flushed red at the mention of that other nickname but forced myself to nod anyways. I was glad that these G&K folk knew who I was… but I kinda wish that cutesy name wasn’t the first thing that they thought of though! “Still…” M14 added, resting a hand over her mechanical heart, “If we weren’t there to intervene, Negev here would have probably thrown you into the brig! You are trespassing, after all.” As soon as M14 said this, I felt Negev shoot me another soul-piercing glare as she took the hot water thermos this time. That glare sent chills running up my spine until Negev passed the thermos back to M14. Jeez, I don’t even want to imagine what this wild-eyed doll would have done to me in a brig. M14 then took the thermos and passed it over to me as she continued, “At the end of the day, we agreed to let you interview us. That’s why we’re here. However, we do have some ground rules.” “O-of course. Just say the word, Miss M14.” M14 nodded and gave me her conditions. “First, we’re sure that you’ve figured this out by now, but we will not disclose classified information to you - aside from what Commander Gentiane is prepared to reveal at the news conference later today. Second - we only have twenty minutes to spare for you. Is that satisfactory, M200-chan?” “W-why, yes Miss M14. But I think that the mere fact that I can sit down with the first doll subcommander of G&K is already a pretty big deal, so… yeah.” A warm smile returned to M14’s lips as she heard this. She then promptly added, “And finally - you don’t have to call us ‘Miss M14’. Just ‘M14’ is fine~! We don’t have to be too formal with each other.” My eyes met with M14’s bright gold and I saw the earnest glow of youthful cheer. She almost looks like what I imagined myself as when I first joined GKTV-5 six months ago. This doll was on the cusp of exploring a brand new world and I could sense her excitement to take on this new role - Subcommander of Station 56586. Seeing that, I gladly accepted M14’s conditions. “You got it, M14. Shall we begin?” M14 nodded while Negev folded her arms defensively. With that signal, I turned on the mini recorder and set it on the table between us. I closed my eyes, took a deep breath and then began our interview. ====== Star~! Interview with M14
At 11:30 on the dot, my interview with Subcommander M14 began without a hitch. M14 and I exchanged pleasantries on tape and traded compliments for our recent promotions. M14 had just become the highest-ranking paramilitary doll in G&K while I was essentially the first doll news anchor in Belarus. Happy as I was to finally get recognized for my efforts these past six months, however, I used every ounce of my willpower to stop myself from getting too giddy and kept the conversation about M14. Thanks to that, we managed to talk about a number of interesting things. M14 shared with me that she chose to refer to herself in the royal ‘we’ in memory of her dear friend FNC. She told me that this doll was a central figure in the Tasteless Incident and was killed in suspicious circumstances. On top of all that, the events of the Unsavory Incident forced the responsibility of Station 56586 onto M14’s shoulders as well. It turned out that she used the royal ‘we’ for two reasons. First, she did so to keep the memory of FNC alive in her mechanical heart. She swore to carry the memory of FNC with her in every waking moment. On top of that, the dolls of Station 56586 all looked to her for guidance and leadership in that turbulent time. In more ways than one, M14 was Station 56586. Everything she did and said would affect the girls of her station and the weight of this responsibility was not lost on her. It was a sad story, for sure… but sadness never was the main tune in M14’s voice. Instead, I felt determination to move forward brimming in her mechanical heart. There were hints of repentance and longing subtly mixed in - of course. Perhaps she still wished that her dearest FNC was still alive and at her side. Even the coldhearted Negev felt this and laid a consoling hand on M14’s shoulder when her story came to a grinding halt when she was talking about FNC. I noticed tears forming at the sides of M14’s eyes. Those were tears that the miniature voice recorder would never catch - tears that I saw with my own two eyes. Once M14 had regained her composure, she wiped her tears and took a deep breath to gather herself. She puffed up her modest chest and then spoke in a more formal tone than she normally would. She then made her bold declaration to the public. “People of Brest Oblast - Station 56586 will be joining Station 794 as a detachment branch of Commander Gentiane’s forces and we shall serve as its Subcommander. Rest assured, however, that our station’s mission to protect Brest and the surrounding areas remains unchanged. No matter what enemy threatens you, we shall be your unrelenting shield - your War Goddess keeping vigilant watch! That is our promise to you!” With that speech, my twenty minutes with Subcommander M14 were up. ======
Before the Press Conference
Time flew so quickly that it all seemed like a blur to me. Between the brief backs-and-forths I had with M14, my meager attempts to coax more information from her and the surprisingly good lunch I had in that deceptively simple MRE, I felt like I was finally able to do a decent interview. With a little post-production magic by our sound team back at the station,I'm sure it’ll turn out swell! I took back the miniature voice recorder from the center of the table, turned it off and pocketed it once more. I then stood up and extended my hand to M14 over the table. “Thank you again for your time, M14.” M14 smiled back at me and shook my hand firmly in response, “Likewise, M200-chan. We would have loved to stay and chat more, but the presscon is coming up. Stick around in the press gallery and we’re sure your station will get some more good tidbits from us and Commander Gentiane.” She then turned to her adjutant and cheerfully urged, “Shall we go, Negev?” Negev nodded, rose up from her chair and took her leave with a polite nod to M14 - and one last furious glare at me. That left me alone in the command tent with M14. As M14 was heading out of the tent as well, she stopped halfway and turned back to me to ask, “By the way~! You wouldn’t have a business card on you, would you, M200-chan?” “Oh! I’ve got one right here. Let me go get it.” I fished out my wallet, combed through the tragically thin stack of rubles I had there and eventually found one of my GKTV-5 business cards. I pulled out the card and handed it to M14. “This is actually just a generic GKTV-5 card that I scribbled my name on with a pen. I’ve only been an employee for six months, and I don’t really have an office yet. The number there goes to Alexi Stoyanovich’s office - he’s our cameraman, you see, and…” Before I could finish the rest of my explanation, however, M14 took the card and leaned over to my ear with strange intensity. She then whispered to me in a stern, threatening voice that contrasted her demeanor during the interview, “Say, M200-chan. We have a quick question for you. We want you to answer truthfully, so listen carefully. What happens to you next depends on your honesty.” “O-oh… uh, of course!” H-holy shit… did I do anything to piss her off? M14 then opened her mouth with purposeful pause and asked, “Does the phrase ‘only hope remains’ mean anything to you?” “E-eh…? W-what do you mean by that…?” “Just answer the question.” M14 bore down on me harder, looking straight into my eyes as if she was judging my soul or something. That pressure, however, just made me clam up even more and I couldn’t even say a word! M14 watched me squirm for a moment before she took a step back and snickered as she playfully apologized, “Ehehe~ we were just playing with you, M200-chan. You’re the first doll news anchor in these parts, so you’ll have much, much tougher interviews than the one you had with us. You shouldn’t let a little pushback and pressure get you down - especially if you’re determined to get the story you want.” “I-is that so?” I wanted to believe M14’s explanation, but I couldn’t help but feel like there was much more weight to her question than she was letting on. ‘Only hope remains’, huh? What a strange phrase. M14 then twirled my business card skillfully between her fingers, tapped it against the maroon beret that she wore as she smiled, “We have a feeling that this will not be the last time we chat, M200-chan. We’re both servants of Brest Oblast now, after all!” This time, I managed to finally regain my smile and answer, “Same here, M14. I look forward to working with you as well!” ======
Outside the Command Tent
M14 stepped out of the Command Tent together with M200 where Negev, Grizzly and Welrod were waiting for them. The newly-minted Subcommander had the two handgun dolls escort M200 back to the press gallery and waved goodbye to the rookie journalist. Once M200 and the handguns were out of earshot, M14 pulled out the black baton that she had been hiding behind her back throughout the entire interview and handed it to Negev. The Israeli MG doll took the baton and then escorted M14 toward the backstage of the press gallery. As they walked, Negev aired out her honest thoughts, “You did something incredibly risky today, M14. We still don’t know exactly who is involved in the Tasteless and Unsavory Incidents. PPK’s allies are still at large - presumably planning their next move.” Negev’s brow then furrowed as she added, “Besides… that doll just now. M200. Her reading on the IFF, the Identify Friend or Foe system, was…” M14 glanced at the business card in her hand and reassured her adjutant, “We know what M200-chan’s IFF reading was. That’s why we came as quickly as we could.” “Yes - but telling a potential threat that you are the new Subcommander!? You were painting a target on your back!” M14 heaved a sigh and reassured Negev again, “That was on purpose, Negev. We had to test M200-chan… to see if she really is what she claimed to be. And besides - it’s not like we weren’t prepared for things to go sour. We have guardian angels watching over us.” The subcommander then stopped mid-stride, picked up her beret and waved it around above her head. She then put on the beret again and grinned at Negev as she revealed, “Wawa and her team are camped not too far from here. They’ve been watching the base and sweeping the perimeter since we opened the door to the media.” Negev looked in the general direction that M14 waved her beret to and cautiously remarked, “The Starseeker Team, huh…? You didn’t mention them at all during the interview.” “Of course.” M14 calmly reassured, “On official records, Wawa and the Starseekers don’t exist - and we don’t know if we can trust M200-chan and her channel just yet. We’re preparing to eliminate this shady cabal that sparked the Tasteless and Unsavory incidents, we’re going to need allies we can trust. If M200-chan proves herself to be worthy, then so be it.” M14 then pulled out the crosshair-shaped hairpin that she kept in her pocket and held it close to her mechanical heart as she fondly added, “After all, the girls of our Station come first. Always. Isn’t that right, FNC-chan?” ======
Noontime Conference Area - Press Gallery
Grizzly and Welrod accompanied me into the press gallery as they had been instructed to and we arrived just as the presscon was getting started. The two handgun dolls then excused themselves to get back to their duties - at least they were supposed to - but Welrod suddenly gave me an earful about trespassing and the horrible things that could have happened to me if I wasn’t careful. I held my tongue and let the British handgun doll lecture me. All the while, Grizzly looked almost apologetic as she quietly gestured to me - probably implying that Welrod had the tendency to get intense at times. Welrod’s harangue only came to an end when Grizzly laid a hand on her shoulder and intervened, “M200-chan understands what she did wrong now, Roddy. Isn’t that right, M200-chan?” I took this cue to give Welrod a bow and formally apologize to her. “Uhm…. y-yes. I’m sorry for tailing the two of you. I’ll be more careful next time.” Welrod folded her arms and snorted - begrudgingly accepting my apology. She then took Grizzly by the hand and dragged her out of the press gallery, saying, “Let’s go, Griz.” Dear me... why does this Station have so many nutcases? With that, I turned away from the strange handgun doll couple and slithered through the press gallery to get to the GKTV-5 spot. Alexi was already there waiting for me expectantly beside our TV camera. The burly cameraman grinned at me and cheered, “Perfect timing, Potato! The presscon is just about to start. I’ll need you to carry our boom mic forward when it gets going.” “Roger that, Alexi~!” “So, Potato - did you get anything interesting?” I pulled out the miniature voice recorder from my coat pocket and grinned back at Alexi as I handed it to him, “Oh yeah - I’ve got something interesting! Twenty minute interview with M14 - the new subcommander of this Station.” Alexi gladly took the recorder from me and gave me a proud thumbs up. “Hoho~ nice! I’ll give it a listen on the way back to the station. I knew we could count on you, Potato!” As he was saying this, the sound of high-end cameras snapping rapidly suddenly filled the entire press gallery. That was Alexi’s cue to man our camera while I picked up the boom microphone and brought it forward. I held up the boom microphone and watched as the famous Commander Gentiane appeared on stage, wearing the full maroon dress uniform of Griffin & Kryuger - complete with the iconic commander’s beret. She was accompanied on stage by her adjutant Super Shorty, as well as the doll that I had been interviewing just a few minutes ago. M14. Just like before, M14 was wearing her own commander’s beret - and she still referred to herself in the royal ‘we’ - but there was a different air about her when she was standing on the stage. Standing next to Commander Gentiane, M14 held her head up high and spoke firmly. There were none of the casual or girlish remarks that she gave earlier during lunchtime. M14’s carefree attitude was held back quite a bit too. On the stage, M14 took the role of Subcommander seriously and spoke like she did when she made the declaration to the people of Brest Oblast at the end of our interview. Having a different public and private face must be tough, huh? It’s almost like having to live two different lives all at once. Maybe. In any case, the presscon was well underway. Commander Gentiane introduced M14 as the new Subcommander and gave some remarks about the reorganization of Station 56586. Aside from that announcement, however, M14 and Commander Gentiane didn’t give anything substantially new. It was mostly a summary of things that the general public already knew - with a few clarifications here and there. The two of them were tight-lipped about both the Tasteless and Unsavory Incidents as well. They only revealed that they were both classified G&K Operations and that a major administrative review was currently underway. By the time that the presscon ended and the Q&A segment began, nothing truly substantial had come to light at all. I was able to sense all of the frustration brewing up in the press gallery. News anchors from the national news channels tried to coax information from M14 and Gentiane during their Q&A, but neither of them yielded anything interesting. Before long, Jim’s turn for the Q&A finally came. Our veteran news anchor stood up, took his place behind the microphone and began the spiel that he had been practicing all morning. Jim went through the motions - greeting Commander Gentiane and M14 and dropping a few compliments to raise his rapport. He congratulated Commander Gentiane for her speedy recovery and praised M14’s historical promotion to Subcommander. Then, the moment that the two of them dropped their guards just a little bit, Jim finally asked his hard-hitting questions. “Based on previous disclosures by G&K and I.O.P., if I understand correctly, the doll that murdered Commander Elias was M1903 Springfield - the former adjutant of Station 56586. Springfield is still at large weeks after the Tasteless Incident. How can the people of Brest Oblast be assured of their safety if a human murderer - a fugitive of this very station - is still on the loose?” M14’s lips crumpled into a frown at Jim’s question. Gentiane then took the stage microphone and finally disclosed some more information with a calm, practiced tone. “Thank you for your question, Mr. Salmons. The people of Brest Oblast can rest assured of their safety since Subcommander M14 has personally purged subversive elements that have been operating in Station 56586. These elements - sleeper SF agents who have been afflicted with the Parapluie virus - have been rooted out and properly dealt with during our recently concluded Operation Unsavory.” Gentiane then gestured to the ruins of the old prison fortress around the press gallery and reminded them, “Drastic measures had to be taken to ensure that Operation Unsavory was a success - and Subcommander M14 was able to ensure my safety every step of the way. Buildings can be replaced - but dolls and human lives are irreplaceable. Under Subcommander M14’s leadership, the reorganized Station 56586 will continue serving the people of Brest Oblast and the city they love faithfully.” Jim nodded as Commander Gentiane spoke. Once she finished, he then promptly asked for clarification, “You mentioned SF sleeper agents just now, Commander Gentiane. Could either of you provide some more details about this? Is this related to the I.O.P. doll recall reported two weeks ago?” M14 heaved a sigh and took the microphone this time to respond, “We will be publishing a formal report in the coming days - but here is the list of dolls that we have eliminated from Station 56586: Suomi KP-31, Steyr AUG, Ribeyrolles, Gr G36 and Walther 2000. These are the same models of dolls that were recalled by I.O.P. for Parapluie testing two weeks ago - this is correct.” The new subcommander then held onto the podium to steady herself as she added, “These dolls we listed attempted to start an insurrection, but they were destroyed over the course of the evening. The enemies of the people of Brest Oblast can expect the same swift and decisive response from us.” Jim nodded again before calmly asking his coup de grace without batting an eye, “I understand that you are a capable guardian of this reorganized Station, Subcommander M14. However, forgive me for being persistent, but you still haven’t answered my question. What do you plan to do about M1903 Springfield?” Commander Gentiane took the microphone again and answered, “We will make a separate statement about this at a future date, but Station 56586 will be involved in a G&K operation to hunt down M1903 Springfield and bring her to justice. Details and logistics are still being ironed out, but I can disclose to you that it will be called Operation Summer Triangle. That is all.” With that disclosure, Commander Gentiane ended the press conference and left the stage with M14 and Super Shorty. All eyes were on the three of them as camera shutters went wild in the press gallery. I, on the other hand, watched Jim Salmons from afar as he calmly scribbled notes on a pocket notepad. Even after such a tense, hardball interview, Jim was still unfazed and calm. He was even able to get the details that I had been trying to coax out of M14 earlier. Alexi then turned off the GKTV-5 camera and turned to me with a smile to ask, “So, what do you think, Potato?” I turned off the boom mic and set it down as I replied, “That was one hell of an interview! It’s the sort of stuff even the National boys and girls would kill for on their segments! Jim is a cunning beast!” I then turned back to Jim and felt the journalistic fire burning in my mechanical heart grow even stronger. I finally had a chance to see a veteran news anchor in action. That meant I had an even clearer picture of the goal that I was striving for. A star anchor who can bring the truth to light. Operation Summer Triangle, huh? The game was brand new and the Meta was really chaotic so in order to establish it a lot of cards had to be balanced. The game was also receiving huge content addons and QoL changes with every update and in my opinion these were the „Golden Times“ of Clash Royale because the updates were unpredictable and they would have massive impacts on the game and the community. As the time went on, the size of the big updates started to decay which from my perspective this started happening from 2018 onwards. Start of decay Clan Wars were the first big update of 2018 for Clash Royale. The exciting competitive game mode was the most popular game mode in Clash of Clans so it was only a matter of time when it would be added to Clash Royale but the execution was very poor and let me explain why. Clan Wars is a competitive game mode. The main purpose of the game mode is to lead your clan through the leagues and to become one of the best clans in the world, but as we know, randomness doesn't coup well with competitiveness. Clan Wars quickly became frustrating and repetitive and nothing was done about it. The new card introducing system really slowed the appearances of new cards in the game. A new card started coming out roughly every three months opposed to multiple cards being introduced in the game almost every big update. With the lack of new cards, gameplay really suffered and a lot of players were really unhappy with this new introducing system (myself included). I really don't know why they slowed down with the introduction of new cards. Which update was the biggest „turning point“? In my opinion, the biggest turning point was the introduction of Seasons and the reason why is actually really simple. The biggest hype factor of every Clash Royale update was the feeling of the unknown. The playerbase never knew what was really coming into the game. Would it be balance changes, a new Arena, new cards, completely new ways of playing the game? Nobody knew, and that was one of the main reasons why the older updates were received much better than the current ones. Back then possibilities were endless, but with the introduction of Seasons, new emotes, arenas and „new challenges“ were almost guaranteed every Season which lasted one month and it really threw the playerbase off. Not only that the updates became smaller, they became predictable and the community answered. What's next? Clan Wars 2 has a lot of potential to offer to Clash Royale. I really hope that Supercell will bring it home with this update because it looks like it will probably be a deal breaker for a lot of people and with the recent downfall of the game's popularity the last thing that it needs is yet another deficit in the active player base. The Clash Royale team has stated that there is a lot more coming in this huge update so i'm really excited to find out about it. I moved to Finland recently and want to continue my regular monthly investments in ETFs but with a broker based here. I'm currently sitting on about 50k cash that I'm looking to dollar-cost-average into a lazy portfolio over the next year, settling down into about 1500EUmonth after that from my regular salary. Unfortunately there isn't a huge amount of information on investing here in English, and Finnish>English translation is notoriously bad which isn't exactly great when dealing with financial matters. I've done my best to look through past reddit posts for the occasional similar questions, which while helpful they appear infrequently so I'm looking for up to date information and advice. For example, I'm aware that there have been a few changes that might invalidate this past advice, such as the recent introduction of tax advantaged equity savings accounts (osakesäästötili) and NordNet introducing fees on their once free monthly ETF savings accounts.
My research suggests that despite the introduction of the fees (2.50EUmonth) NordNet's monthly ETF savings product is still the most cost effective way to save. The simple portolio I had in mind was - 90% - EUNL - iShares Core MSCI World UCITS ETF - 10% - IS3N - iShares Core MSCI EM IMI UCITS ETF USD (Acc) And for fun maybe a couple of hundred a month into Nordnet's Finnish "Superfund" (Nordnet Indeksirahasto Suomi) which has zero fees. I didn't consider the other Nordic countries since that'd require a currency conversion commission of 0.5%. I didn't find much in the way of alternative brokers - Local banks e.g. Nordea and OP charge at least 0.2% service charge. I'd previously used DeGiro when I lived in the Netherlands, and they do have a .fi site, but I can't find out if they automatically report taxes to the authorities here, which I would like since it will minimise issues with filling out tax returns in a language I don't know. It also looks like the tax-advantaged equity account (osakesäästötili) may not be worthwhile since only buying and selling of individual stocks is possible with it, no ETFs.

The subjects of this DD include lots of smaller flavor, the other offmap invasion, as well as formable nations. ARCTIC EXPLORATION The Arctic is the only part of the map that has direct access to the ocean. Out in the Arctic Ocean there is much land that is uninhabited or became uninhabited due to the Apocalypse. If your have a province on the Arctic Ocean and are a king or emperor who is culturally Kven, Norwegian, or Murmansk Russian or alternatively religiously Petro-Norse, as well as have a shipbuilding technology of 4, you can launch expeditions into the Arctic. After the expedition returns home you will be presented with everything they brought home. If this is the very first arctic expedition in the game you will also gain a unique bloodline. The discovery made also affects the stuff you get from the expedition. To limit its abuse, you cannot make your primary heir one, and the decision can only be used once in twenty years. However, there is something else lurking around in the Arctic... THE ARCTIC INVASION That's right, the second offmap invasion in this mod comes in the form of an invasion from the Arctic. This was a calculated choice. The eastern part of the map has to deal with the Koreans, while the Southwestern part is most concerned with the European Empire. This left no outside threat to the very northernmost part of the map. Making the invasion come from the Arctic was a very natural choice. But who are these invaders? THE ARCTICANS Arctica is a vast but very loose and sparsely populated empire. Many settlements in its vast territory are also merely seasonal. Simply put, Arctica is a confederation of settlements all across the Arctic. Many peoples inhabit these lands, but one is clearly dominant, forming most of the population as well as the entirety of the ruling class: the Germans. This was a somewhat controversial choice. I know exactly what every single one is thinking right now: no, the invaders are NOT Nazis, even if the scenario I've put forward purposefully invokes some conspiracy theories about the fate of the Nazis. The origin of these Arctic Germans is never explicitly stated, and unless someone comes up with a brilliant origin story this is unlikely to change. All that is known is that they rule an Arctic Empire, they are Norse Pagans, and they have some kind of obsession with Lapland. Even in the event that they do trace their origin to the Third Reich in some form, the consequences of the Apocalypse and the following centuries have caused this origin story to be forgotten or greatly distorted. In any case, the Arcticans are not happy with the state of affairs in the Barents and Norwegian seas. First of all, when the invasion occurs the Norwegians and other peoples of the Arctic Coast have been fishing in territory that the Arcticans see as their own. Additionally, Arctica is seeking to solidify its control over the whole Arctic region, so an invasion of Lapland seems sensible, as it has a coastline on the Arctic Ocean. Besides that, the Arcticans do in fact have some old legends about ancient injustices in Lapland. Make of that what you will. THE INVASION The date of the invasion can be controlled using the game rules, or it can be disabled altogether. By default it happens in the 2800's. To those who are new, the start date is 2517 and the end date is 2995. Like the Aztec invasion in vanilla, it starts with a hint of their coming. https://i.imgur.com/8YWwwAk.png After some time passes, the main invasion force eventually appears at one of the many predeternmined locations along the Arctic Coast. https://i.imgur.com/2ge5LCL.png From this point on the invaders will mercilessly invade any weaklings they encounter. Arctica will have roughly 65,000 troops at the start, but this may be subject to change depending on how balanced it is. Like with the Koreans, there will be narrative events whenever the Arcticans capture a major city. https://i.imgur.com/uiI1Sej.png SOLAR ECLIPSES NASA happens to have every future solar eclipse up to the year 3000 detailed on their website. Using this information, I timed special solar eclipse events to trigger in the appropriate times and places. The event itself is nothing major, being a neat little flavor event with minor effects that depend on your character's attributes. https://i.imgur.com/GnlZuKx.png There are almost two dozen of these events in the mod's timeline, and every part of the map will have multiple ones. The flavor text for total and annular eclipses will also be slightly different. FORMABLE NATIONS There will unfortunately be no pictures in this section, since there really isn't anything I can show that isn't already explained. Setting up all the required stuff to form the nations is also quite painful. Sorry about this. I can assure that the features described here are fully functional. FINLAND Hundreds of years after the Apocalypse the old Finland is but a memory, a very bitter memory. Many have claimed to be rightful rulers of Finland, for example the Kokemäkean Emperors and the Liberal Presidents. Yet few truly take their claims seriously. Unified Finland is a mere legend, something completely unimagineable in 2517, seeing how many new tribes and nations have risen from the ruins of the old nation. But for as long as there is a single Finn standing, there is hope of a restoration. Finland is likely the most obvious of all the formable nations. It is the Roman Empire of this mod, featuring TWO unique unified Finnish cultures and a unique CB to reconquer all historical Finnish irridentist claims. To form Finland, your religion cannot be unreformed pagan, Svecoman, Communist, or Juche, and you must be of a Finnish or Swedish culture. You must completely control area covered at the start by the de jure kingdoms of Uusimaa, Varsinais-Suomi, Kanta-Häme, Pirkanmaa, and Satakunta. Additionally, you must completely control at least two other duchies from a specified list. Forming Finland gives a bloodline and creates a brand new unified Finnish culture. Culturally Finnish characters appropriately have a Finnish culture belonging to the Greater Tavastian group. If you are culturally Swedish, the new culture will be part of the Swedish culture groups. Both cultures are simply called "Finnish" and they cannot exist simultaneously. STATOIL Statoil is a legendary name among the Norwegians. It is generally believed to have been a great empire that predated the Ragnarök, the event that destroyed the world. Evidence of its presence can be seen everywhere, but ultimately little is known about the mysterious realm, except that it its inhabitants revered Petrolium, the divine liquid, just as much as the Petro-Norse faithful of the modern day. Statoil was already mentioned back in DD7. It is indeed a formable nation for Petro-Norse pagans in Northern Norway. Froming Statoil required control over all on-map parts of Norway as well as smaller parts of Finland and Russia. Forming it is not anything special, since as far as formable nations go, Statoil is on the smaller side. ANKDAMMEN Ankdammen is a completely mystery. References to "Ankdammen" in pre-Apocalypse texts vary greatly in character, but from what scholars can piece together, Ankdammen was some kind of a Finland-Swedish realm on the Finnish mainland. The timeframe and relation to Finland is not quite known, but many believe it to have been a collective name for the Swedish-speaking provinces of Finland, while others believe that it was an independent empire in its own right. Legends and stories have spawned out of this mysterious entity, but much is still uncertain. Whatever the case "the Duck Pond" lives in the collective memory of Swedish-speaking peoples on the Finnish mainland. Ankdammen can be considered a kind of a "sub-step" for forming other formable empires. To form it one must be of a Finland-Swedish culture (Åländare does not count) and essentially control all historically Swedish-speaking areas on the Finnish mainland. Like Statoil, it is one of the smaller formable nations. KARELIA Karelia, Karelia. Where does one even start? The land of Karelia is legendary. Even in post-apocalyptic Finland the tragedy of Karelia is known quite well. An ancient, vast, beautiful land once inhabited by Finnic peoples which has been brutally subjucated by the Russian menace. Karelianists in particular take this to the extreme, as their whole religion is formed around this tragic event. Reversing the Russian conquest of Karelia is their primary goal, going before everything else. Karelia can only be formed by Karelianists. Forming it requires complete control of Olonets Karelia, as well as control of either the rest of historically Russian Karelia or the control of historically Finnish Karelia, lost territories included. Forming it, as one might imagine, is of great religious significance to Karelianism. Additionally, control over the lands required to form Karelia also allows you to become the Commander-in-Chief, the head of the Karelianist faith. RUSSIA It is known rather well that the vast majority of ancient Russia is completely uninhabitable. Only a small part of Northwestern Russia survived the Apocalypse in any shape. It is all of what is known to remain of Russia. Russia may not be what it once was, but at least it can still be. Forming Russia requires control over "Russia Proper", basically the area of Russia that isn't part of Karelia, as well as some other old Russian lands as an additional condition. To form Russia, one must be a non-Communist Russian. For Communist rulers, we have Russia's alter ego, THE SOVIET UNION The Soviet Union plays a major role in Communist beliefs. It was a vast and ancient Communist empire founded by the prophets Lenin and Stalin under the guidance of The Revolution. Its might was unparallelled while it still existed, but something caused it to eventually disappear. Some believe that it fell only due to the Apocalypse, while others insist that it was something else. Whatever the case, the Soviet Empire lives on in stories and legends. Forming the Soviet Union has the same territorial requirements as forming Russia, but it is only available for all Communists, even non-Russians. Forming it also makes you the General Secretary, the Communist head of religion. SWEDEN Like Russia, most of Sweden itself is in poor condition, being completely devoid of civilization. Yet elsewhere the legacy of Sweden remains. Not only are there populations of Swedish-speakers, but also ancient cultural influence from times of Swedish rule. Like many other ancient Empires, Sweden has become legendary. There are always some who wish for a restoration. There are two ways to form Sweden. The first way is available to Rikist Svecomans only. "Restoring Sweden in the East" requires largely the same territory required for forming Finland. It also sets your capital in Turku/Åbo. The other way to form Sweden is by forming it "in the north". This method is avaiable for Svecomans and those of Norrbottning or Västerbottning culture. That does it for this DD. What'd you think?

A: I think we will keep the current pace of release. And yes, every batch is handpicked by us directly, but we tend to release the older mods first.

A: I'm afraid not. Even though we are definitely going to have this client before PL, this time we will wait for a while first to collect some feedback.
Q: Will you increase the future Mod3 batch sizes to more than 4? Like add 2 other Mod3 to each batch to increase the pace to catch up with CN?
A: I'm afraid that we will keep the current pace of mod release.
Q: Will we get the new CN/KR client with expanded echelon slots and revamped dailies/weeklies?
A: The slot expansion is tied to the S.F. capture so I don't think we will get it that fast. This time we will wait for a while first to collect feedback on the new client, however, I think it's possible for the new dailies and weeklies to come online first.
Q: Rerun for Enfield Onion Shooter gacha?
A: I think that banner is already in the Radiant Collection, but at the same time, it's possible for it to get a time-limited rate-up when the new Children's Day banner is released.
Q: So DJMax held in the middle April?
A: More like around the end of the month.
Q: Will we get a rerun of the Valhalla collab? I never got Stella and it still pains me.
A: I'd say it's possible in the end, though it is unlikely to happen anytime soon

A: It's possible for some to get a rerun, but I don't think there will be such a rerun soon.

A: It usually takes 6 months or more for a major event to enter the Campaign.

A: It has been released yet

A: Unfortunately, I don't have an ETA yet.

A: I'm not allowed to reveal the logic behind it but releasing them in batches is still the preferred way.

A: think we will follow our own release order but yes, older mods tend to get released first. However, as I mentioned before, we are also considering releasing those that won 2nd place in the mod vote back in last year.

A: Unlikely, we prefer to have them stay seasonal if possible.

A: Yes, that's a confirmed optimization for future updates.

Q: When the armory is full of T-dolls or equipment, and you restart a level, it will allow you to deploy your t-dolls, but if you try to start it will give the typical alert that you are full. Will there be a change and inform that you are full when restarting?
A: Now the capacity check only happens when you hit the "Start Operation" button and unfortunately, any change that is similar to the kind you mentioned is unlikely to happen in a short time
Q: How difficult would it be to get a "remove all equipment" option in the armory?
A: The thing has been suggested before, though I'm not sure if there will be such an option in the future.
Q: Do you plan on fixing NTW-20's Mod? The game was freezing for me when I tried using her for the CT ranking.
A: We are aware of the problem, but for now it seems to be happening on certain devices only, so a fix to it will take some time.

A: As far as I know it's unlikely to be possible.

A: No login T-Doll has received a Neural Upgrade even in old servers, so I don't think it will be a thing in EN anytime soon.
Q: Will it be possible to customize our sound effects for the guns from now and preexisting sound effects?
A: I don't think it would be possible. Only 1 set of SFX can exist.
Q: The theater event takes places without the use of duplicate dolls. I really appreciate this and want to know if this would be possible for ranking maps too,

A: I can't give you any promise now but I think we will re-evaluate the rules on the basis of the general feedback.

A: The upcoming Theater event should award you some Calibration Tickets and this event becomes accessible periodically.

A: I would like to have one too if possible, but I think we are not adding contest items to other servers now.

A: I think that's generally because the chibis are mirrored.

A: Yes, I think we will add a counter for her in the future.
Q: Ability to like back all people?
A: I don't think there is a plan for that right now.
Q: How About A System Where You Can Input A Number Instead Of Rapidly Clicking/Tapping When Leveling Someone Up With Combat Reports? Having To Tap It About 500 Times Just To Make It Go From Level 30-70 Or Level 70-90 Is Honestly Super Annoying.
A: I think you can also press the "-" to max the Combat Reports, so as far as I know, it will remain as it is right now.
Q: There was a hidden achievement called "Perfect Dive" that requires the ranking map to complete. Will it be permanently locked for all new users/those that missed it?
A: I'm afraid that the achievement will remain locked, even if the ranking map gets a rerun.
A: I think that's intended. In your echelon it is still a 2-star Fairy. The hollow star indicates that you can increase its star-rank by leveling it up.
Q: Optimization on the UI? Even with a high performance phone like a Galaxy Note 9, there are still instances where transitioning from one screen to the next results in a 1 second blackscreen and fps drops. The only time where it runs smoothly is when the app runs on a tablet.
A: The black screen is actually a transition/loading screen without animation or a loading image. We will make optimizations to it later to make it look natural, but the transition itself will remain there.
Q: Can we get general gold equipment put into the black market shop?
A: I don't think we have a similar plan for now.
Q: When in Logistics and selecting an Echelon to deploy, would it be possible to add being able to see the Fairy attached to the Echelon? Specially since Fairies contribute nothing and deploying the Echelon means you cannot move/train the Fairy until the Logistic is done.
A: I don't think that's possible within the current structure, but I think you did make a good point and I will try to suggest it to the devs.
Q: Will calibration tickets be available in forward base camp?
A: I'm afraid that there isn't a plan for that right now.
Q: Is there any way to unlock the hidden levels in the released events (like D.D.) or the cutscenes in Ranking maps? The guides show nothing about it.
A: As for now, most of them will be locked even if the corresponding event is added to the Campaign. Arctic Warfare's ranking map is the only exception so far as some players were unable to read its story in the original event.
Q: Commander who missed Python here, will she be available in the future for another event drop or on production pool ?
A:I'm not with MICA staff but allow me to answer your question. Python won't be added to production pool but she will be drop reward when CT become permanent campaign. Official answer : And she will also have a rerun in other time-limited events.
Q: Can we have fairy's option to sort them by a talent (helpful while enhancing them)? When we have the default t-dolls' sorting (by level) can we have a secondary sorting by acquisition so the order of the "equal" t-dolls doesn't randomly change between runs? Show only locked t-dolls filter, Change Achievements of "enhance T-doll X times" to "enhance T-doll with X dolls/pills" similar to how chip achievements work (the migration could be done with current values, and the new system could count in a new way starting from that)
A: Unfortunately, I cannot confirm any of the suggested changes now. I will sum them up and filter out those that have been asked before sending them to the devs.
Q: Any chance for Low rarity Tdoll have their own Mode?. i mean kind like Ranked map but only allowed to use Low rarity doll and no dupe. with this the low rarity tdoll that only purpose is just for Collection will shine, with peoples in endgame content will have more thing to do.
A: It's not like that we are against the idea, so I can't say it's 100% impossible. However, I don't think we will see anything similar coming to EN really soon.
Q: Is it possible to have a Skill Training mechanic where players can opt to spend training data in bulk to raise a skill by multiple levels? For instance, spend 600 Basic Training Data in one go to raise T-Doll skill from Level 1 to 4 (will take 6 hrs to complete).It's probably just me, but I find it efficient especially when I sleep so that I don't have to log in back to the game
A: It sounds quite interesting to me, but such a feature may involve a lot of changes. I will try to suggest it to the devs.

Hello all! I am MrWuunderyablins, and before I start I’d like to give some info about me because if this is responded to well it’s going to be multiple parts. I’ve been a long time lurker of Internet forums and gaming for the last two decades. I pride myself on my abilities, especially when it comes down to FPS games, and very especially to the entirety of the battlefield franchise. I’ve owned and played every single game to date with the sole exception of Hardline, no hate towards it but I was not looking for cops and robbers so I didn’t buy it. This current iteration of BF5, I have 5days14 hours logged. This is the game I’m here to talk to you about, and how to drastically improve your experience with the game through hints and tips that will range from beginner to advanced. My gamer tag on Xbox is DingyBatTehCat, and you will quickly find that despite my somewhat low playtime, most of my lifetime stats are inside the top 10 and 5% of all players and I’m sure you can see any videos I’ve uploaded to Microsoft. My favorite weapon is the Lewis gun at 4500 kills and maintaining a strong 1.75 KPM with that and the Suomi. I mostly play breakthrough. I play as aggressive as they come. So, now I break my long lurkery silence and make my first reddit post ever to hopefully inform some others, both beginner and professional! RAMBLE DISCLAIMER DIFFICULTY OF TIPS MAY NOT BE IN ORDER! These will be general tips, as I can do map specific, class specific, vehicle specific, and weapons specific tips later. So here it goes!
Okay so the first thing I’m going to talk about is something most of us realize as “duh” level common but don’t actually ACCOUNT for this variable during the game. This of course is playing with the active realization that there may be an enemy near you, that knows where you are, at all times, no matter how “safe” or “hidden” you are. The entirety of your movement and and engagement should be based on this. I don’t care if there are 5 blueberries around you in a circle. You get up to run and bam you’re dead, one of them forgot a MMG in a bush and he wrecks the squad. These types of things lead me to my point in applying this mentality.
A. If you’re not moving, whether attacking or defending, wherever you’re looking STAY AIMED, period. This is going to be an annoying habit to get into if you don’t do it already, because mad lads like to zoot around quick as possible all the time. The benefit of this is easy. I don’t care what WHAT high rpm spam-ass pellet gun you want to use, if I’m fully aimed when we see each other and you’re not, I’m going to kill you every time. Shotguns exception at closest range. Some guns have “QuickDraw” so to speak but it’s worthless compared to simply being prepared all the time. B. This will seem contradictory as hell but you’re going to also have to RUN LIKE A BAT OUT OF HELL the entire match, while simultaneously performing my previous point. You cannot avoid being spotted, period. You can shoot flares but you will wind up being spotted a lot, regardless. If you’re surveying your surroundings all the time like point A teaches, then you’ll always have an idea of where the enemy may or may not be. Use this to sprint between covers. Crouch sprint is your friend. If you’re spotted, or have just killed someone, it’s time to go. If you’re in a heavily congested area, you’re going to want to move and aim at the same time, rarely ever sprinting and NEVER lay down, unless you absolutely have to. You limit your mobility and your sight lines and give yourself too little time to react to emerging threats as .5 seconds is life or death.
STOP SHOOTING AT THE FIRST FRIGGEN ENEMY THAT YOU COME ACROSS. This is probably one of the hardest things to do in my opinion, but mastering it will allow you to slip unnoticed past entire defensive positions and kill from behind. A good rule to follow is that if you have any doubt at all you’re going to to kill who you’re shooting at, don’t even attempt it at all. He gets hit for 50 dmg, a medic heals him, and 4 people blast you because they all saw your tracers and are a lot closer than who you shot at. As a general rule the most important targets are medics, because they can zombie raise the ones you’ve just killed and lay tons of smoke. This leads me to the most important subpoint I can make.
A. If you come across a group of people, you only have a fraction of a second to react, but who do you target? The only ranking that matters is IMMEDIATE DANGER to YOU. Example; you find group of four, 15m away inside of a trench, medic reviving someone, 2 with backs turned and one literally about to face you even if they don’t know you’re there yet. ALWAYS, and I mean that, kill the person who would be able to kill you back first, ie, the one about to face you. The medic is tempting and so is a free double kill but focus your targets and instead of coming out with 1 or 2 kills walk away with all of them. Capiche?!
WHEN IT COMES TO PTFO So a general rule of thumb for those who don’t wish to die is to STAY OFF THE DAMN OBJECTIVE if your team is holding it. Between arty, planes, tanks, squad ordinance, and kills hungry goons it’s the least safe place to be. Both of these sub points here will also be effective in helping to avoid deaths from vehicles and to destroy them.
A. If you’re attacking, this usually doesn’t apply for long periods of time. But if you’re DEFENDING as an attacker, don’t wait for them to come mob you. Apply what I taught you and hang out about 30m off the objective in the general direction of counter attack. 9/10 you can catch whole squads off guard as they rush to recapture a lost objective. B. If you’re truly defending, the formula is pretty much the same, but instead you’re going to want to defend specific “areas” in a circle around the objective. It’s easy to bunch up and defend the choke point 16 others are defending, but that’s not how they will get in. If you stick with circular patrols, just outside the objective zones you’ll encounter a lot of success.
MAKE YOUR MOVEMENTS 100% UNPREDICTABLE One of THE most overlooked aspects to gaming, period. THIS is especially true when you have 4 people all aiming at you all the time because you’re balls deep in objective.
A. If you’re shot at, and then run behind a wall or into a building, human nature tells us to duck into a corner and turn around and wait to ambush the persuers. Instead you’re going to do the opposite of this, and the MOMENT you’ve disappeared from view you’re going to turn around, aim, and charge right back out the dooaround the wall and mow that bastard down. WHY? because 9/10 he is sprinting like that mad lad I talked about earlier or he has equipment in his hands because he thinks you’re a camping bitch and you’re gonna merk then every time. Earlier in the shower, I was struck with some inspiration for a stupid game idea: What if I used console commands to reform every single pagan religion, giving each one of them at least their unique religious trait? Well, after drying off, I figured out how to do just that, and also realized that if I reformed tengri then they could just walk all over everyone including the other pagans with impunity, so I'm leaving them out of this. Now I need to figure out when I'd actually start playing this monstrosity of a game -- Should I start with the old gods, or iron century? I hate the Charlemagne start date, so that one is out automatically, and anything later than that has the baltics and slavs and scandinavians converted -- that defeats the whole point. It's really a matter of how much of a head start I want to give to certain pagans, since the slavs have Serbia and the vikings have Scotland and Rurik's Russia (which will itself be unstable as hell because I'm not making germanic cosmopolitan) in The Old Gods, while the Romuva and Suomi are more or less the same as they are in 936. Also: These reformations do include Zunist and Hellenic, I'm open to suggestions for rulers to suddenly convert -- the only restriction is that they can't instantly trigger crusades and jihads (so no converting the byzantine emperor and the abbasid caliph) and shouldn't be too far away from their holy sites (so no sticking them in iceland or sri lanka).

A: I don't think that's possible. The T-Doll recovery feature won't allow you to "buy" dupes with cores. It only works when you don't have the T-Doll in your armory.
Q: why developer not make FPS setting feature like Azur lane ect (30 FPS and 60 FPS) not only high FPS mode
A: I think the high FPS mode is the same as 60 FPS mode, while disabling it will make the game run at 30 FPS.
Q: Adding in a feature to mass select Dolls/gear to retire/scrap?
A: I think the function already exists which is called "Smart Select". Unless you want to mass select T-Doll/equip of higher rarity.
Q: Aside from SOPMOD and UMP45, will there be any other MOD3s?
A: Yes, there will be other Mods besides the 2 story-related T-Dolls.
Q: Will translations for the dolls dialogue besides the secretary lines be added?
A: Yes, those translations are already confirmed to be released in the future. Now we are prioritizing the translation of big events and MOD stories so you may still need to wait for a while.

A: "Breeder" turned out to be an inappropriate translation of the original Chinese nickname, and "Caretaker" is the agreed-upon choice.
Q: Localization gripe B: See, I'm not a 'they, them, their' kinda guy... but a 'he, him, his' sort of of Commander. Now, before anyone gets pissy... I'm talking about handling direct references to the Commander in game in the same way as in F/GO where the selected gender adds that personal touch to the otherwise neutral writing. Why is this worth considering? Welp.... I'll be honest... I'm not a them or they, and I reflect that in my Commander and just feel it'd add that final bit of immersiveness to the Commander's ever growing direct relevance in the narrative... we're no Master of Chaldea directly referenced yet, but GFL is getting there and I feel the narrative would benefit from reflecting our choices that much more directly, especially since the whole Commander's Closet thing is a thing... Well, that and I hate Gentianne as a trash character from the manga that holds nothing on the game's MC.

In events like christmas, there is a great pic of art that I loved but it got blocked by the dialogue box, can we install the looking at the background art ( eye button on the main menu ) so that we can take a screen shot for it or gaze at it? In skin packages, there are some good damaged art like AK-12 beach skin and Breezy Orchestra, the chibi dance victory is also great as a preview for the skin packages, if possible can we have the preview over them as well in the shop?

A: As for the redeem code, I'm afraid that you can only use it on CN server.
